$5,000 in Community Service College Scholarships Offered
by Junior Golf Scoreboard
to Celebrate the Scoreboard’s 20 Year Anniversary

Richmond, VA – The Junior Golf Scoreboard is awarding five $1,000 scholarships to eligible junior golfers who are high school students with outstanding community service records in recognition of the company’s twenty years of leadership following the sport of competitive junior golf.

Founded in 1998 to help unify the junior golf world and to help college programs discover and recruit players, the Junior Golf Scoreboard tracks more than 2.500 junior stroke play tournaments worldwide and ranks more than 11,000 male and female junior players.

Notable junior alumni ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard include Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Paula Creamer, Justin Thomas, Lexi Thompson, and virtually all American tour professionals who played their junior career after 1998. Scoreboard archives still include the junior playing histories of these players. Currently Junior Golf Scoreboard’s top-ranked boy player is Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, NC and the top-ranked girl player is Lucy Li of Redwood Shores, CA.
From local and regional competitions to the U. S. Junior Amateur and American Junior Golf Association events, Junior Golf Scoreboard’s propriety ranking system utilizes an algorithm that emphasizes and weights scoring as the top factor but also includes strength of competition and finishes.

“When it comes down to it, golf is about getting the ball in the hole. For two decades, our comprehensive tracking system and resources have provided clarity and vision for the junior golf community,” said Mac Thayer, founder and executive director.  “Since 1998, Junior Golf Scoreboard has tracked and ranked more than about 4,200,000 rounds of golf played by about 500,000 individual junior golf male and female junior players at nearly 25,000 tournaments. Consistently we see a quality of play trend of about 10% total rounds compared to under par for competitive junior golf players. In addition, the caliber of play from todays’ juniors is stronger than ever, with girls, especially, now scoring more than 10% of the rounds under par.”

More than just rankings, Junior Golf Scoreboard provides extensive resources, content, and tools to support junior golf athletes. Young golfers and their families can create and publish their Golf and Academic Resumes on the Junior Golf Scoreboard with real-time, automatic ranking updates and access free content about golf fitness, playing the sport, and an extensive resource library of golf-related college recruitment information and articles.

Through the Junior Golf Scoreboard’s Coaches Corner premium service, college and university coaches and recruiters privately access information about leading junior golf athletes. Coaches and recruiters from more than 400 colleges and universities utilize the Coaches Corner services.

Junior Golf Scoreboard also publishes an annual listing of Junior Golf National Letter of Intent Signees and Non-athletic Scholarship Commitments. For 2018, college commitment data is available for nearly 1,000 junior golf athletes.

“We appreciate the support, encouragement, and ideas we have received from parents, players, and college coaches over the past two decades. These 20th Anniversary Scholarships are our way of thanking the junior golf community for their support, loyalty, and making us the number one resource in this sport,” said Mr. Thayer.  “Our goal is to invest in, strengthen and provide new opportunities to junior golf players through reliable, high quality information and resources. I personally have seen the positive impact of playing and competing in junior golf, a sport that cultivates honesty, integrity, and discipline in young players.”
